About Me
I'm Tony Thompson. My business name is Silver Healer Productions. Originally from the UK, I now live and work in Auckland, New Zealand. I’m a bass player, but have always been fascinated by the recording and production process. In the 80s, while a gigging bass player in London, I did some recording courses at Morley College and eventually set up my own studio. The first proper mix I did was some time in 1988, for a band I was playing in at the time - the recording had actually been supported by Paul Weller, though I didn’t know that at the time. I took the multitrack tape to a friend’s studio and mixed it there. From the 90s onwards I did a lot of varied studio work, selling many tracks of production/background music, as well as being involved in writing and artist development collaborations. I also worked for 5 years as a Lecturer in Recording Studio Techniques. I’ve done label work and recorded and mixed a range of independent artists. In the last 10 years, more and more work has come my way via the Internet.
have a small but very functional studio setup, based around a MacBook Pro i7 with 16GB RAM (with second Samsung monitor), Focusrite Clarett 4Pre Thunderbolt interface, Event monitors and Beyerdynamic DT770 headphones.I use an external 2 TB drive for all my audio files, and this and the MacBook are backed up almost daily. Obviously my main software is Logic Pro X. I’ve been using it for 23 years, so I know my way round it well! I have a lot of great plugins, from companies such as Brainworx/Plugin Alliance, Waves, Soundtoys, Softube, Eventide, Klanghelm, and more. I believe I have all the necessary tools to deliver you a great mix, but more importantly, I have the necessary skills and experience!
I’m a member of the Music Producers Guild New Zealand. I'm also a most read writer on Audio Recording and Music Production on www.quora.com.
